"Having been brought up in six countries across three continents, I wanted to continue living the inter-cultural experience that is the good fortune of any interpreter. Amongst other things, this presupposes a real ability to listen – a skill that enables you to fully understand the other party.

As a conference interpreter since 1984, I have come to realise that quality is of the essence in this demanding profession, without ever losing sight of the inherent need for flexibility. Interpreters must offer a rapid service that clearly identifies and responds creatively to clients’ needs, a service that must be able to challenge its existing procedures, adapt and even re-define itself according to the circumstance. This conviction was my motivation to create ALTO and later its London office. It is also my guiding principle in all professional development."
